MOTHERS DAY 2023!! Hooray for moms!

Hooray for Moms!

I hope that all the special ladies out there known as “Mom” had a wonderful Mother’s Day filled with lots of love!

Moms truly are superheroines – they do what needs to be done, when it needs doing – and often without recognition. When I think about Mother’s Day, it reminds me of how much moms ought to be celebrated for the selfless women they are, and that’s why it’s nice that they have a day that’s just for them!

Of course, everyone has different thoughts on the word “mom.” To some, the role was filled by a grandma, an aunt, or maybe even dad or other male role model whose love helped nurture and inspire the adults they helped raise when mom wasn’t there. Whoever your “mom” was or is – is the same one who bandaged your knees, or made you laugh when you thought your world had fallen apart. Such a person is indeed special and like no other, because of their selfless love – and THAT is what it is all about.

Moms, just like anyone else, aren’t perfect, but they do what they can. So whatever hats they wore when you were growing up, you might think of yours as a mediator, counselor, teacher, or friend. The sorts of lessons and values they taught you shape who you are today.

I’d also like to pause in acknowledgement of those I know who weren’t able to spend the day with their mothers.

Thoughts to Ponder

Moms might do things differently than we wanted or hoped, but they, just like us, are people with feelings and dreams, and sometimes things don’t work out the way they thought. The best we can all do is understand this as a sort of human flaw we all have, and that just as our parents – our moms – love us even with our mistakes, we ought to be able to do the same with them!

Task for the Week

Schedule random days throughout the year to spend time with your mom (or “mom-like” role model) where you can do special activities together. When you grow closer together, you forge memories that will stay with you for a lifetime, even after they may not be beside you one day.

Words to Live By

“All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother.” – Abraham Lincoln

“Youth fades, love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; a mother’s secret hope outlives them all.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

“Children are the sum of what mothers contribute to their lives.” - unknown

Here’s to a great week and a Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Ryan Hill Group!
