Bolingbrook Listed Among Top 50 Place to Live in the United States
As Money Magazine reports in a recent article, the village of Bolingbrook was ranked #38 as one of the Best Places to Live in Illinois, making it the second suburb of Chicago (Naperville ranks #33) on the list.
Money Magazine’s list was based off of the data from 781 cities in the United States with populations from 50,000 to 300,000 people. Each city was rated according to diversity, arts and entertainment, economic growth, education, housing, jobs, and crime.
Bolingbrook made it as one of the top places to live because of having a diverse population of 73,350 people, with family-friendly neighborhoods, low instances of crime, a growing job market, an abundance of sports activities, high graduation rates, and affordable amenities and recreation.
Although it was first established in 1831 as a settlement, Bolingbrook eventually grew enough to become incorporated as a village in 1965. Today, thanks largely in part to Mayor Roger Claar’s efforts in helping boost economic growth since he first took office in 1986, Bolingbrook is home to the companies of Southern Wine and Spirits and West Liberty Food; Clow International public airport, in which is the Illinois Aviation Museum at Bolingbrook; youth league basketball and hockey games from their local high schools; the Bolingbrook Park District; and lots of golf courses.
Of especial interest is the Bolingbrook Golf Course, ranked #28 for being one of the best public golf facilities in the country by Golf World’s Reader’s Choice Awards.
Then there is also the Bolingbrook Park District, which is a family-friendly facility for dining, education, fitness, and nature classes, and other recreational activities, including:
- Ashbury’s Boughton Ridge restaurant
- Boughton Ridge Golf Course
- Lifestyles Fitness Center
- Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park
- Hidden Oaks Conservation Area
With a median income of $81,315 and homes at around $174,000, Bolingbrook is ranked #210 for livability in IL and #4,221 in the United States, making it affordable for first-time homeowners and families to become homeowners, as there are several homes for sale there. Residents are encouraged to keep landscapes well-maintained and as an incentive the Bolingbrook Beautification Commission hosts awards in excellence for Landscape, the Spirit of Halloween, and the Spirit of Christmas. In that way, they encourage residents to take pride and be responsible for the community so that everyone has a better place to live, work, and enjoy the many activities found in the village.
There are also Village-held events for Arbor Day – tree planting with tree giveaway and party, and other fun gifts and activities; as well as Festival in Lights & tree lighting – annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at the Promenade of Bolingbrook.
