About West Chicago
West Chicago, a city in DuPage County is the first Illinois community created by the debut of the railroads. In 1849, the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad first arrived from Chicago and West Chicago was then founded as a railroad town. The city's building stock demonstrates the glorious transformations in style and trend from the mid 19th century to today's array of 21st century contemporary structures. West Chicago was once a hub of several rail lines, transportation, and development and these are primary factors that contribute to the city's rich and interesting character.
The original settlers were primarily English and Irish, with Germans arriving in the 1860s and Mexican immigrants by the 1910s. The population was 27,086 according to the 2010 census.
