The city of St. Charles in Illinois has been a premier destination in the Chicago area for over 175 years. Nestled along Fox River, its natural charm, innovative schools, beautiful parks, international employers, local resources, world-class events, and unique architecture have earned St. Charles its official city slogan as “Pride of the Fox.”
St. Charles Culture
Combining its distinctive culture with the vibrant spirit of its residents, St. Charles boasts a tourism tradition that has been going on for more than two centuries.
Residents and visitors alike enjoy a variety of annual events hosted in Lincoln Park in Downtown St. Charles like the Pride of the Fox Riverfest in June and the famous Scarecrow Festival in October.
Downtown St. Charles was named by the Chicago Tribune as one of the region’s “Top 10” for recreational opportunities, fine dining, arts and entertainment, unique shopping, and a vibrant nightlife.
St. Charles is also home to the Fox Valley Concert Band.

In 2011, St. Charles ranked first place among hundreds of communities across the nation in Family Circle Magazine’s Annual Survey for “Best Towns and Cities for Families.” The communities in the magazine’s annual survey of perfect places to call home combine affordable housing, strong public school systems, good neighbors, green spaces, and giving spirits.
St. Charles Education
St. Charles is within the Community Unit School District 303, which currently has twelve elementary schools. There are three middle schools and two high schools in St. Charles.
The Rich Heritage and History of St. Charles
The St. Charles Heritage Center has two small museums located in its historic local buildings.
One of the best libraries in the U.S. is the St. Charles Public Library, which has a large collection of print and online materials as well as a vast genealogy collection.
In 2008, St. Charles named itself the “Water Garden Capital of the World” as part of a promotional effort by a local water gardening company.
